03/15/2008 - New Gear!
My Nikon D100 was getting long in the tooth, and the D200 was just not enough of a
technology change to justify the change. Enter the D300, finally a professional Nikon with a CMOS sensor. There's only so much
you can do with CCDs. The Mrs. knew how important it was to me, and she saw that I slept with a photo of it under my pillow, so
she agreed to let me buy it, and a new lens (AF-S DX Zoom-NIKKOR 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED). I have a pretty large selection now of
high-end Nikkors and I think I have the entire range covered now in prime lenses or zooms.
So I've had it less than 24 hours now, and have only had it out of the house for an hour to walk around the neighborhood and grab some shots, but the results were spectacular, and it will be a while before I get used to it. With my D100 I was always having to push a few stops just because the 3d matrix metering was always a few stops dark. Or I would just shoot with spot metering. Amazingly, the D300's metering modes all work flawlessly, none of them have to be adjusted in any direction. The 51 point focus sensor is tits also. See the pics below, and these were all taken on program with no post processing, just cropping in Photoshop to fit my monitor (1920x1200). Some Features
